The Fall Harvest

Sunday, October 12th, 2008

1:00 to 4:00 PM

An informative and fun program focusing on old-time fall harvesting practices. This event should have something of interest for all members of the family. There will be a demonstration on the operation of a cider press and fine representative farm animals. Inside the Kimball-Stanford barn there will be a large harvest bake sale, a photo and tool exhibit and a pumpkin painting contest for children. We also hope to have some live "fiddle" music.

Come and enjoy!

140 Years of Skiing in Maine

Sunday, November 23rd, 2008

2:00 PM

A presentation by Scott Andrews, writer and researcher with the Ski Museum of Maine. He will survey the entire history of Maine skiing, from its beginnings in 1870 among Swedish immigrants to the present day. Using dozens of historic photographs, subjects to be covered include the 1930's in Fryeburg, the 1950's and 1960's at Pleasant Mountain (today's Shawnee Peak) and the growth of today's large-scale destination resorts. We will also recall a few failures, particularly the expensive saga of Evergreen Valley in Lovell/Stoneham.
